Flashpoint: Legion of Doom #1

Adam Glass and Rodney Buchemi

"Hot Blooded:" Once a member of the Flash's Rougues, Heat Wave, Mick Rory, is a pyromaniac that cannot keep his "needs" in check wighout serious help, which the Rogues always offered him. Now that they no longer exist, nor the Flash, Mick has become the primary villain to Jason Rusch and Ronnie Raymond who combine to form Firestorm.

Summary: Man... this thing really starts with a bang. Heat Wave is hanging out in a subway (not to be confused with Subway, the worlds greatest resturaunt and weakness of Michael Strahan... see previous entry), and when Firestorm splits into its two parts, Heat Wave jumps out and BURNS JASON TO DEATH... before page three even starts. Ronnie is next, but Cyborg gets there just in time and the two battle on a subway car, which Mick sets on fire, leaving Cyborg to try and salvage it, while he gets away. Or at least, he would, if his fuel belt hadn't been cut by a piece of shrapnel. Fuel + Fire= 2nd degree burns all over his body when he wakes up in prison. He is sentenced to death in one month... so let's skip to the day before that. After setting an opposing prison gang on fire and killing them, he's sent to solitary until he goes to the execution chamber. The execution chamber, by the way is this thing:
Win. We then find out that all metahuman prisoners are depowered by Amazo droids and humans just have their items taken away. We meet Cluemaster here, who seems to be a part of a plan. But since no one cares about the Cluemaster... its hard to tell. He is Heat Wave's new cellmatem and once inside, he begins to get very sick. Cluemaster begins convulsing, as a hand shoots out of his neck (I'm assuming he's dead at this point) and out pops Plastic Man, who has a breakout plan ready. Kinda makes you wanna throw up, right?

High Points: This thing is really interesting in a number of ways and I liked the pacing. I look forward to see where things go next.

Low Points: I'd like to see more character identification. A lot of the prisoners are depowered and out of costume so we have no idea who they are.

Verdict: A-. This thing is extremely violent and gory... not as much as the Grodd one shot coming up, but its rough. Great read though.
